Notes
Unmitigated elegance. Markus Niggli’s 2015 “blue” is a blend of Zinfandel from Borra Vineyards (80%), more Zinfandel (10%) and Petite Verdot (5%) from Spenker Ranch and 5% Petite Sirah from Borra Vineyards. Would it be an oxymoron to describe this wine as an “old world style” Zinfandel ?
Exquisite balance, elegance, structure, complexity, soft tannins, and perfectly packed with dark berry flavors. Boysenberry jumped out at me but there’s so much more… earthiness, pine cone buds, a little spiciness. My eyes popped out when I read the 16.5% ABV— I would not ever have guessed—as all aspects of this wine, like a Swiss watch, are brilliantly integrated. OMG, the bottle is empty!
