Provençal Pairings: Wine with Food

When in Paris…

Mark and I spent the week of Christmas in Paris. We found a really beautiful one-bedroom flat in our favorite neighborhood - the Marais.

This pairing was a really lucky guess on my part. I had already chosen the menu for the Christmas dinner we would be having and had shopped for the ingredients at the contiguous Marché Beauvau and Marché d'Aligré - markets I highly recommend!

I popped into a wine store about 50 paces from our apartment to choose a wine and asked what wines they had from Provence; aside from a nice

An Old Friend I Had Never Met

I must tell you that I have never tasted a wine like this before, and yet there is something so familiar in every sip. It's akin to meeting someone for the first time, yet feeling in your heart that you have known her or him all your life. It's a sense of immediate warmth and comfort. That is how this wine made me feel. Having enjoyed many dessert wines, from the sublime (Château d'Yquem Sauternes) to the ridiculous (no one shall be excoriated here), this wine stands apart - my new-old friend. I truly love it!

Deception

Susan brought back this bottle for me from her most recent trip to Provence. A little something to thank me for being a part of the Provence WineZine family. Honestly, I am so lucky to be part of this endeavor, as I am constantly learning about wines, pairings, and my own

Le Vin de Table

Vin de Table. Table wine. We all have our favorites. You know, the wine you drink every day. The one you buy when it's just you, or you and your family. A good, reasonably priced, and readily available table wine. Vin de Table.

Today's wine is just that. La Vieille Ferme rosé can be found in most grocery stores, big box wine stores, and even the occasional boutique

Tasting Tavel

Four years ago, almost to the day, I was at a dinner party for which each of the eight guests was asked to bring a rosé to include in a blind tasting. The wines came from all around the world, and no one wine was duplicated. One of the wines presented was a Tavel; its dark hue was unfamiliar to us and assumptions of sugar content and

And the Oscar Goes To…

The other night, we had some friends over for l'Apéro - a wonderful French convention that gathers people for an hour (or so) to share a nice beverage and some nibbles. Often, a digestif such as Pastis, Lillet, or Campari is served, but it can just as easily be a wine. Susan wrote a wonderful piece on l'apéro several months ago - you can

The Happy Couple

A happy marriage isn't just about how you get along with one another. It's also about how you, as a couple, get along with others, and they with you. Meet the Croques: Monsieur & Madame. They get along really well - in fact, they are so much alike that people can't remember which is which! Today, I made both a Croque Madame

Versatility

This month I tried something different. I tested one wine with two very different dishes to learn what affect food really has on the taste. This all started because I had a bottle of 2015 Pétale de Rose from the well-known Château La Tour de l'Évêque, a bottle I can't easily get here in the Southwest where I live. I wanted the pairing to be special, and
